Integrate the IT infrastructure of partners in the education sector in Norway, Spain, and Greece towards their respective MS eIDAS node, so to provide cross-border access to university services in each partner MS using national eIDs.

Propose a specification of Domain Specific Attributes (DSAs) in the education domain for providing the secure exchange of academic information needed between Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) participating in the Erasmus+ Programme.

Facilitate the technical interoperability with eIDAS and eduGAIN  by applying the de facto standards used by eduGAIN for attribute exchange.

Implement a HUB based integration model, that hides national complexities, to support cross-border eID and exchange of simple academic attributes over eIDAS, and that provides for: sectorial governance of trust relationships, central discovery of attribute and service providers, and scalability. Additionally:

  • the integration model will provide an alternative transport mean for attributes until they can be natively supported as domain-specific attributes by eIDAS nodes.
  • the proposed academic hubs will minimize the integration cost with eIDAS of the HEIs/NRENs federation components already connected to eduGAIN.

Demonstrate the benefits of cross-border exchange of Domain Specific Attributes, as well as eIDAS minimum data set and national extensions, for partner services provided in the education sector through testing and piloting with the participating HEIs.

Provide guidelines on how the HUB integration model can be replicated in other domains and Member states.

Contribute to increase eIDAS eID uptake and use in the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), and the sustainability of the provided services, through road mapping studies, policy guidelines, targeted and strategic liaisons to key actors (e.g. EUNIS Student Card Task Force GÉANT/eduGAIN, NRENs, higher education councils, the EUA, companies providing technical services to higher education sector), reinforced with an academic eID Monitoring Group to foster more focused dialogue in support of project activities, and dissemination of the action’s results to other Member States (MS).
